DUE: Cultural Identity Handout.

On a scale of 1-10, how important is your culture to you?
LECTURE: “Sleep Questions” Three Partner/Shares.
VIDEO:
“60 minutes, The Science of Sleep.”
SLEEP SIMILE:
- Think about what we’ve learned about the topic of sleep and what lack of sleep does to our bodies. Possible concepts include: Leptin and obesity, micro-sleep, sleep and memory (hippocampus), sleep and emotional instability (the amygdala and its connection to the pre-frontal cortex), how deep sleep heals our bodies.
- Come up with a simile for the concept. Example, Leptin is like beach time, because once I have enough of it, I know it’s time to go inside and drink some water.
- Illustrate your simile.
- Be ready to present it to the class with a brief written explanation. For example: "It's great to go to the beach, but after a few hours in the sun, I feel the need to get indoors. If I didn't feel that, I would stay there all day and possibly get sunburned or dehydrated. That's just like leptin and how it signals the body that you have consumed enough food to last until the next meal time."
